    Professor awarded Royal Agricultural Society Associateship

    Professor Jim Monagahan receives his award from the Rt Hon Lord Taylor of Holbeach PC CBE FRAgS

    The work of a ÎåÒ»³Ô¹Ï×îйÙÍø specialist in fresh produce agriculture has been recognised with a Royal Agricultural Societies award.

    Professor Jim Monagahan became the latest ÎåÒ»³Ô¹Ï×îйÙÍø academic to receive Associateship of the Royal Agricultural Societies at a ceremony in the House of Lords, in recognition of his significant contribution to the agricultural and land-based industries of the UK.

    He was one of 32 trailblazers to secure either an Associateship or Fellowship of the Royal Agricultural Societies at the event, which also saw ÎåÒ»³Ô¹Ï×îйÙÍø alumnus Andy Newbold and Shropshire farmer Catherine Suckley recognised for their work.

    Hosted by The Rt Hon Lord Taylor of Holbeach PC CBE FRAgS in the presence of 100 fellows, associates and guests, and organised by the English Panel of the Council for Awards of the Royal Agricultural Societies (CARAS), the ceremony was a celebration of people who are shaping the future of British agriculture.

    The awards highlight those who have gone above and beyond, driving change in sustainable agriculture and pushing the boundaries of research and technology.

    Al Brooks FRAgS, Chairman of the English Panel, said: “These 32 exceptional individuals represent the very best of British agriculture. Through their leadership and dedication, they have become ambassadors for our industry, exemplifying excellence in important areas such as climate change, animal welfare, farm safety, product development and research as well as communicating farming’s message with the public.

    “We are delighted to celebrate their achievements in such an iconic and historic British setting.”

    The Rt Hon Lord Taylor of Holbeach PC CBE FRAgS also offered his congratulations, adding: “British farming thrives because of dedicated individuals like today’s award recipients.

    “Their passion and hard work are what makes our agricultural sector world leading. Today is about recognising their incredible achievements and the lasting impact they have made, both here in the UK and internationally.”

    Holders of ARAgS and FRAgS awards have been recognised across a wide range of activities. Recognising personal achievement in a professional capacity, and recipients are frequently individuals of influence within Agriculture.

    They range from practical farmers to academics, company directors, media practitioners, administrators, advisors and consultants.

    Speaking after the ceremony, Professor Monaghan said: “It was a great honour to receive the Associateship for the Royal Agricultural Societies - and I was also very happy to represent Shropshire alongside Catherine Suckley, who runs an excellent potato business in the west of the county, and where we have some potato trials this year!”
